Abstract
957,502. Disc brakes. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. Sept. 15, 1960 [Oct. 27, 1959], No. 36308/59. Addition to 881,423. Heading F2E. A disc brake comprises a rotatable disc, a rigid non-rotatable slotted base plate 1 completely encircling the disc on a chord thereof, a calliper-type housing, comprising two reaction members 5, straddling the disc and attached to the base plate, and a mechanism for effecting braking engagement between friction pads 7, one on each side of the disc, and the disc, torque sustaining guides 9 being provided for each pad, the guides each being pivoted at one end to bolts 12, which tie the members 5 together, and engaging abutments 111. Removal of one of the bolts allows two guides 9 and hence the friction pads to be removed, the pads being slid free of spring clips 43 connecting them to hydraulic pistons 42 in the members 5. Two guides only may be used in the brake, and only one tiebolt 12. The piston and cylinder arrangement in each housing may be replaced by a bellows mechanism or a pressure-tight sac.
