Abstract
957,454. Electrically released switches. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Sept. 14, 1962 [Sept. 21, 1961], No. 33871/61. Heading H2B. A sealed magnetic reed contact unit 1 across the polepieces 2a, 2b of a permanent magnet 2 is controlled by current pulses in a winding 3 and retained in the closed position by the permanent magnet. A pulse in the winding 3 which produces a flux in opposition to that of the permanent magnet results in repulsion of armatures 5a, 5b which are pivoted at 6a, 6b. Springs 7a, 7b move the armatures 5a, 5b away from the polepieoes 2a, 2b and the flux from the armatures and the permanent magnet passes through the reed contacts to effect closure. The springs retain the armatures away from the polepieces until a reverse pulse in the winding 3 causes their attraction by the polepieces and the permanent flux is diverted from the contact reeds which open under their inherent spring bias. Two such devices may have a common winding and may have common armatures (Fig. 5, not shown).
