Abstract

The polarised differential trip is intended for safeguarding the breaking of a circuit breaker or an isolating switch. It has to normally balance coils on a closed magnet circuit with two branches, a permanent magnet, and a moving armature for closing between the two branches. The trip is exposed to a resetting force, somewhat smaller than the attractive and holding force due to the magnetic flux generated by the magnet. The coils (13, 14) are so wound on the magnetic circuit that the differential flux, generated by them in the air gap, has an opposite direction to that generated by the magnet (12). The trip enables direct current application.
