Abstract
906,554. Electromagnetic relays. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. July 10, 1959 [July 12, 1958], No. 23781/59. Class 38 (5). Magnetic contact springs in a sealed tube are normally held in engagement by mutual attraction due to the flux of a permanent magnet and separate when this flux is opposed by that of an energizing coil. As shown in Fig. 1, the permanent magnet has one pole in engagement with the contact spring 8 and its other pole engages a flux member 5 which extends to the other end of the tube 1 close to the spring 6. The flux path for the coil 3 includes a return member 2 which ensures tha the coil flux passes through the spring 6 and contact area 7 without passing along the spring 8. This arrangement ensures that the contacts are not reclosed if the coil flux exceeds the permanent magnet flux. Alternatively, a member as shown in Fig. 5 may be bent to form both members 2 and 5 and retain the coil 3 as shown in Fig. 3, the tube 1 being longitudinally adjustable so as to vary the operating current.
