Abstract

948,930. Delivering sheets; sheet separators. TELEFUNKEN A.G. Nov. 30, 1960 [Dec. 1, 1959], No. 41150/60. Headings B6B and B6H. An endless belt conveyer for delivering letters, cards or other flat objects to a pile has parts of a pair of endless belts constituting the conveyer guided round rollers carried by a movable carriage whereby the point of delivery may be varied in accordance with the size of the pile. A base-plate 1 has mounted thereon a stack support in the form of an endless belt 2 which moves slowly in the direction indicated. A carriage 7 is mounted on rails 9, 10 above the belt 2 and is movable along the rails in a direction parallel to the belt 2. Two further endless belts 12, 13 have contiguous portions which start near rollers 14, 15, round which the belts are respectively guided, and which extend round rollers 16-20 mounted on the carriage 7 to a point 21 where the belts diverge. After the point 21 the belt 12 passes round rollers 22, 23, also mounted on the carriage, and roller 24, mounted, together with roller 14 on the base-plate 1. The belt 13 passes round rollers 30, 26 mounted on the carriage and rollers 27, 29 mounted on the base-plate together with roller 15. The rollers 24, 27 are driven and spring-biased rollers 25, 28 maintain tension in the two belts. A spring-biased jockey roller 32 helps keep the contiguous belt portions in contact. Letters are fed between the belts 12, 13 at a point 11 and are delivered to a pile 3 on the belt 2 at the point 21. The pile 3 abuts against an endless belt 4 having perforated portions 4<SP>1</SP>. The belt is driven in the direction indicated and when a portion 4<SP>1</SP> is located opposite a source of suction 5 the end letter of the pile 3 is separated from the pile and fed between the belt 4 and a driven roller 6 to a further conveyer. The carriage 7 is moved along the rails 9, 10 by a driving motor controlled by a feeler contacting the pile 3 which motor moves the carriage in either direction or allows it to remain stationary in dependence upon the position of the feeler. As the carriage moves the shortening or lengthening of the belt portions between the rollers 14, 15 and 16 is compensated for by the corresponding lengthening or shortening of the belt portions between the rollers 23 and 24 and 26 and 27.
