1328012 Delivering sheets WINDMOLLEB & HOLSCHER 19 April 1971 [8 May 1970] 27160/71 Heading B8R In apparatus for stacking sheets W fed in overlapping formation on a continuously movable conveyer 1, e.g. endless belts, the lowermost sheet W1 of an intended stack is held stationary to space it from preceding sheets, e.g. to cause succeeding sheets of the intended stock to bank up to increase the overlap, braking means being progressively applied to the leading edges of the succeeding sheets in an opposite direction to the feed direction at a speed such that uniform overlapping occurs, the braking means being lifted from the sheets when the lowermost sheet is freed. A clamping device 3 may be lowered towards rails 5 between the belts, and suction devices 6 raised to engage the trailing edge of the lowermost sheet W1 to stop it, the braking means comprising bands 9 being lowered into contact with the sheet W1 and thereafter into contact with succeeding sheets by a reciprocable roller 14. Alternatively a roller (21), Fig. 3 (not shown), acts upon spring steel brake bands (20). In each case the brake bands are attached to the clamp 3 at their forward edges. Conveyer belt 7 runs at the same speed as conveyer 1 until clamping device 3 descends when it is accelerated, a roller 8 pulling the last sheet W2 from beneath clamped sheet W1. Counted batches may be produced by timing the cycle. Belt 7 is followed by a stacking belt or table.
