Abstract
939,103. Refrigerators. ELECTROLUX Ltd. March 29, 1960 [April 28, 1959], No. 11009/60. Class 29. Relates to a friregerator cabinet or chest in which the evaporator 14, Fig. 2, is secured to the exterior of a storage compartment liner 13, the unit consisting of the system 10, its evaporator 14 and the liner 13 is inserted through a window into an outer shell 12, and then plastic insulation 34, 38, e.g. polyurethane, is foamed in situ between the unit and the shell. According to the invention, the surfaces of the unit to be opposed to the insulation are covered with a layer 23, 25, 28 of a material, e.g. rock wool or paper, having low internal cohesive capacity, prior to the foaming, so that the unit can be readily separated from the shell and foam if required, e.g. for maintenance. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, evaporator 14 is located near the top of the liner, the lower part of which is cooled by an evaporating- condensing system 16, 17, 18, 22. As shown in Fig. 6, the unit is formed of the refrigerating system 45, or high temperature evaporator, a freezer compartment liner, and an evaporator for the latter. Material 55 is applied prior to the foaming in situ of insulation 56, 57. A thin layer of foam may be formed over the liner and evaporator prior to the application of the low cohesion material. In a modified procedure, a core having the same shape as the unit is used in foaming the insulation, is removed, and the unit is inserted.
