Abstract
1,048,061. Refrigerators. ELECTROLUX Ltd. Dec. 4, 1963 [Dec. 4, 1962], No. 47847/63. Heading F4H. The freezing compartment and the cooling compartment of a refrigerator are cooled by evaporators 11 and 10 formed in series as a single panel by roll bonding aluminium plate, removing the panel material between the evaporators except for a bridge piece 17, and bending the; evaporator 11 to form four sides of the freezing compartment. The evaporators are connected to a compression-condensation refrigeration system through coaxial pipes 13 and 14. The evaporators are inserted into the refrigerator through an opening which is closed by a synthetic plastic box 31 to which the evaporator 11 is fixed by rivets or screws 36, the evaporator 10 fitting between projections 37 on the box 31. A freezing compartment outer aluminium shell 38 is fitted in a groove on box 31. The box 31 and the space between evaporator 11 and shell 38 are filled with mineral wool, glass wool or foamed plastic. In the latter case the foamed plastic is introduced into the walls of the freezer compartment through openings 46 in the box 31. The back of box 31 is covered by a plate 52 fastened to the refrigerator cabinet by means of holes 53. A frame 40 is fitted over the front of the freezer compartment and fastened to the evaporator 11 at 42. Drip troughs 47 and 49, Fig. 2 (not shown), conduct condensate to a drain pipe 51. Defrosting of the evaporators is carried out automatically by stopping the compressor for a period in response to a thermostat located at the evaporator 10.
