Abstract

1,118,581. Refrigerators. GENERAL MOTORS Ltd. 3 March, 1966 [1 April, 1965], No. 13775/65. Heading F4H. Prior to introducing a foamed insulation into the space between a refrigerator inner liner 1 and outer shell 2, flexible compressible members 3 are fitted to allow subsequent expansion of the insulation. The members 3 extend approximately two-thirds of the distance between the shell and liner and may be of the form shown or may be of hollow triangular cross-section, Fig. 5 (not shown). The members may be of solid elastomeric material or of foam elastomeric material with a liquid impervious coating. During foaming, Fig. 1 (not shown), the refrigerator is placed with its open side downwards and the foam producing liquid is introduced through a hole in the back of the cabinet. The liquid may be a polyurethane made from a mixture of a diisocyanate and a polyether, and a liquid fluorinated hydrocarbon.
