Abstract

<PICT:0927927/IV(a)/1> An apparatus for putting an adhesive coating adjacent the edge of a paper web, in a continuous rod cigarette-making machine, has guide means 6, 8 for controlling the lateral position of the web and means, e.g. a nozzle 10, for applying the adhesive at the location at which the web is being laterally controlled. The guide comprises a plate 6 which has a hole of semi-circular profile and which is adjustably connected to one end of a block having a channel 7 and opposing plates 8 attached to the top of the block. In passing continuously through the hole, the web is arched into semi-circular section and is coated on its underside along one edge by the nozzle 10 which is adjustable about pivots 14, 15 by screws 12, 13 respectively to vary the position of the adhesive relative to the edge of the web.
