Abstract

903,409. Joint-making packing. WALKER & CO. Ltd., JAMES. Aug. 15, 1960 [Aug. 27. 1959], No. 29307/59. Class 122 (3). A gasket is formed by spirally winding strip 10 cut from sheet material so that the cut edges 11, 12 provide the sealing surfaces of the gasket. The strip may be corrugated before winding to have a V, W or M-shape cross-section and, preferably, the convolutions are bonded together by an adhesive during winding. The sheet material may be compressed and may be of natural and/or synthetic rubber, a rubber and asbestos fibre mix, asbestos fibre reinforced with metal gauze, a suitable plastic, or asbestos cloth reinforced with metal wire. A metal ring may be sprung into engagement with the inner periphery of the gasket. Specification 720,040 is referred to.
