Abstract
902,712. Winding wires. SYNCRO MACHINE CO. Sept. 29, 1960 [May 31, 1960], No. 33520/60. Class 120 (2). A winding device for taking up the untreated or unusable end of a wire to be wound on a spool 12 comprises an auxiliary spool 13 mounted on the same power driven mandrel as the spool 12, and a reciprocating traversing mechanism 22 having an arm 24 that can project over the spool 13, the wire being initially guided through the traversing mechanism 22 and over a pin 25 carried by the arm 24 so that the wire, whilst the traversing mechanism is stationary, can be wound on the auxiliary spool 13. When sufficient wire has been wound on the spool 13 the traversing mechanism is set in motion and as it moves to the left a pin 26 on a disc 16 catches the wire and pulls it off the pin 25 so that the wire adopts the position shown in broken lines. Since the wire no longer passes over the pin 25 the motion of the reciprocating mechanism fails to carry the wire on to the spool 13 and the layering of the wire is restricted to the spool 12. The disc 16 may be integral with or fixed to the spool 13 or it may be a separate part interposed between the flange of the spool 12 and the end of the spool 13. When the winding of the spool 12 is completed, the two spools are removed and the wire is cut at some point between the periphery of the flange of the spool 12 and the portion of wire coiled on the spool 13.
