Abstract
900,003. Drum brakes. DEUTSCHE PERROT-BREMSE G.m.b.H. Jan. 20, 1961 [Jan. 22, 1960], No. 2433/61. Class 103 (1). An internal expanding shoe-brake adjuster comprises an adjusting nut displaceable against a pre-stressed spring and rotatable by an adjusting spindle at right-angles to the nut and carrying a spur gear engaging a crown whael axially displaceable on the adjusting nut. The adjusting nut 9 which has internal threads of opposite hands engaged by adjuster bolts 10, 11 is carried in hardened steel bushes 14, 15 in a casing 1 in tongue 2 and slot 30 connection with a brake carrier 3 and clamped thereto by a hollow bolt 5. At least one axial groove 17 is formed in the nut 9 for engagement with corresponding projection 22 in the bore of a crown wheel 21 axially slidable on the nut. A compression spring 20 bears on half collars 19 which bear against the crown wheel 21 and shoulders 18 on the nut to allow float of the brakes shoes when applied and centring of the shoes when released. The crown wheel is rotated for adjustment by a spur wheel 23 on a spindle 24. The spindle 24 is normally locked by a cap 26 engaging the squared end 25 of the spindle and the bolt head 5 ; this cover can be reversed to provide an adjusting knob. In a modification the shoulder 18 on the right-hand end of the nut and collars 19 are omitted, the spring 20 bearing against a bush slidable in the bush 15 and axially held on the nut 9 by a circlip.
