908,113. Friction gearing. KLINGER MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd., GILCHRIST, R. S., and MATTINGLY, D. A. E. Oct. 12, 1959 [Nov. 25, 1958], No. 33210/59. Divided out of 908,111. Class 80(1). [Also in Group IX] In the apparatus for frictionally rotating and supporting a spindle described in Specification, 908,111, the spindle is retained magnetically. A horse-shoe magnet is disposed near the spindle and each of its poles is provided with fingers alternating and intercalated lengthwise of the spindle which has flanges opposite the various fingers, or the wheels of one set may alternate with magnetized discs (of smaller diameter) mounted on the same shaft and a corresponding number of peripheral flanges provided on the spindle adjacent the wheels or discs. The spindle may be of material such as ferrite having a high resistance to eddy currents.
