Abstract
1305651 Magnetic couplings STANDARD MAGNET AG 10 Feb 1970 [10 Feb 1969 30 Dec 1969] 6295/70 Heading H2A A magnetic transmission particularly for use in a pump drive comprises three mutually rotatable elements arranged concentrically or face to face, the intermediate element comprising a ring of circumferentially separate conductors such as 17a, 17b, Fig. 6a, of magnetic material having pole faces facing the other two elements 11, 14 which are pole rings with permanent or induced poles alternating in sign along the circumference. Any one of the elements may be fixed and the other two rotate to provide different ratios. Several embodiments with differently shaped conductors and different pole numbers are described. The low speed pole ring 11 may comprise a ring of permanent magnets 70, Fig. 5a, with intermediate soft iron angle members 71 which form polepieces. Alternatively, Fig. 5b, an axially magnetized permanent magnet ring 73 is located between soft iron rings 74, 74<SP>1</SP> from which extend imbricated poles 76. Several such rings may be stacked together to form a single pole ring, Fig. 5c (not shown).
