Abstract
Cyanuric chloride is prepared by heating tetrameric cyanogen chloride at above 300 DEG C., e.g. from 350 DEG to 420 DEG C., in the presence of a catalyst consisting of one or more of the following elements, their oxides, sulphides or halides:-boron, aluminium, silicon, tin, arsenic, antimony, bismuth, iron, cobalt, nickel, copper, zinc, cadmium, titanium, chromium, molybdenum, tungsten, manganese. Tungstic acid and fluoboric acid are included. The catalyst may equal 0,0001 to 10% of the tetramer. It may be on an inert support or present as a metal in the wall of the reaction vessel. The process may be batchwise or continuous, the cyanuric chloride being recovered by sublimation or fractional distillation.
