Abstract

906,404. Magnetic brakes. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Aug. 7, 1959 [Aug. 8, 1958], No. 25486/58. Class 35. A meter brake magnet comprises bar magnets 14 with soft iron poles 15 closely adjacent to reduce parasitic losses due to the interaction of drive and brake magnet fields in the disc 10. Each magnet 14 is of anisotropic material and the polepieces may be formed by a sintering process. The magnets are located in a recess in a non- magnetic structure 16 and are held in place by a filler 17 cast between magnet and recess walls. Initially, the two units are made in one piece and set in the recess, the gap, for armature 10, then being cut after the moulding.
