Abstract
905,737. Getter-ion pumps. ULTEK CORPORATION. May 25, 1960 [June 15, 1959], No. 18544/60. Class 39 (1). In an electronic vacuum arc discharge getter pump there is an anode 21, cathode plates 34, 36 spaced from each end thereof, and an axial magnetic field, and means such as a magnetic disc 41 are provided adjacent at least one of the cathode plates for concentrating the magnetic field within the envelope adjacent one polepiece. Disc 41 is of soft steel or iron and is secured to cathode disc 34. The permanent magnet 42 has a mild steel or soft iron polepieces 43 and 44, 46. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), a hollow cylindrical polepiece is associated with internal concentrating discs adjacent each cathode. The cathode plates 34, 36 have centring tabs and cathode 36 is spot welded to stainless steel spacer 38. The cathode discs are of metal, e.g. titanium, zirconium, or alloys. The anode lead-in arrangement includes a ceramic insulator 27. Metal washers 30, 31 hold strap 22 on lead 23. The envelope 13 is of stainless steel. The device is used to getter klystrons, travelling wave tubes, X-ray tubes, or cathode-ray display tubes. Inlet and outlet tabulations 17, 18 are provided and the outlet tabulation may connect through an aperture in the lower cathode, Fig. 3 (not shown).
