Abstract
897,996. Pile driving. SCHENCK MASCHINENFABRIK G.m.b.H., CARL, and MULLER, L. Jan. 26, 1961 [Jan. 26, 1960], No. 3130/61. Class 68(2). In a device for gripping piles that are to be driven or drawn by vibratory pile drivers having one or several pairs of gripping jaws, one gripping member 26h of each pair is rigidly fitted into a gripper holder 21 whereas the other gripping member 26a is movable by hydraulic or pneumatic means into contact with the pile 11 which is to be driven or drawn when the latter is located in the mouth 24 of the gripping device in front of the fixed gripping member 26b, and means are provided to ensure that the gripping pressure simultaneously clamps the gripper holder 21 (via a member 8 therein) to the vibrator 13 and releases same when the pressure relaxes. In one embodiment fluid operating a piston to move the member 26a to grip the pile operates a ram and cylinder to clamp the member 26a against radial play and to hold the holder 21, via member 8 against the vibrator 13. In the embodiment of Fig. 2 fluid operates to move a ram 23a and its wedge member 25 downwards thereby urging a member 26 and the gripping member 26a against the pile, while the cylinder 23 is urged upwards to push member 8 and hence the gripper holder 21 into contact with the vibrator 13.
