Abstract
877,340. Reservoir pens. NAKADA, T. Sept. 3, 1959 [June 30, 1959], No. 30066/59. Class 146(3). A ball-point writing unit comprises an ink reservoir 1, a writing ball 2, a layer 4 of material not miscible with the ink to prevent ink leakage, and a shank portion 3 adapted for frictional sliding engagement with a pen holder 6, the reservoir proper lying wholly outside the holder. As shown, the' shank is cylindrical and fits over the end of holder in the shape of a pencil. In one modification, a cylindrical shank is fitted within a hollow holder, and in another the shank is part cylindrical. Shoulders to limit the insertion of the shank into the holder may be provided on either the holder or the writing unit. The layer 4 may be a paraffin liquid which melts at ordinary temperature, a powdered metal, a fine sponge material, or a highly porous synthetic resin.
