Abstract
867,075. Spring-clips; cotters. F. T. PRODUCTS Ltd. Feb. 2, 1959 [Feb. 5, 1958], No. 31195/60. Divided out of 861,050. Classes 44 and 89(2). A fastener for holding the cranked-end 36 of a shaft 35 within an aperture 42 in a member 41, so that the member may pivot about the crank while relative axial-movement of the crank and member is prevented, consists of a U-shaped spring-clip 28 having a web 29 and two limbs, each of which is bifurcated to form a pair of snap-engaging-arms 30, 31. In use, the crank 36 is passed through the aperture 42 and this assembly is forced laterally into the clip, the crank-parts at each side of the aperture entering lead-in-gaps 32 so that the arms 30, 31, spring apart to allow the crank to enter between arcuate portions 33, 34, which are of smaller radius than the crank. The arms then snap together, the pointed prongs 37, 40, at the ends of the arcuate portions gripping the crank to prevent radial movement thereof with respect to the member 41. Each bifurcation of the snapengaging-arms extends into the web 29, so that the latter acts as a leaf-spring, increasing the engaging-force of the arms.
