Abstract
841,232. Electro-pneumatic brakes. VERWALTUNGSGESELLSCHAFT DER WERKZEUGMASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON. Jan. 20, 1959 [Jan. 27, 1958], No. 2070/59. Class 103 (1). An electro-pneumatic compressed-air brakes system, particularly for railway rolling stock, is provided with control valves 17 controlling the charging and discharging of the brake cylinders, each of the control valves 17 being operated by the force of an electromagnet fed from a source of current through an electric amplifier 18, the output current of which is positively related to a control input voltage, the amplifier 18 being provided with a negative current feedback making the current in the electromagnet independent of fluctuations in the resistance of the electromagnet. Referring to Fig. 1, the amplifiers 18 are shown as being operative by a driver's brake valve 10 constituting a variable resistance; the main line auxiliary reservoir and brake cylindei being represented at 5, 21 and 19 respectively, the member 17 being an electropneumatic control valve, shown in detail in section in Fig. 3. The manner in which the negative feedback is supplied to the electromagnet 61 of the amplifier valve 18 is shown in the detail in section in Fig. 3. The manner in which the negative feedback is supplied to the amplifier valve 18 is shown in the circuit of Fig. 2. When a voltage increase occurs owing to an increasing voltage of the battery 36, the current then input, flowing through the diode in the blocking direction, produces a voltage drop on the resistor 41, which reduces the voltage on the diode. In this manner on the diode 64, a voltage results, which is independent of the fluctuations of the voltage on the battery 36 to a far reaching extent.
