Abstract
837,310. Packaging electrical components. HUNT (CAPACITORS) Ltd., A.H. Nov. 29, 1957 [Nov. 30, 1956; Aug. 7, 1957], Nos. 36644/56 and 24942/57. Class 94(1). [Also in Group XXXVI] A process for the provision of terminals on disc-type capacitors 18 or other components comprises threading hair-pin shaped wires 12 through pairs of apertures 16, 17 in a supporting strip 11 and bending the free ends 14, 15 of the wires at right angles into overlapping relation as shown. Capacitors are then inserted between the ends of each hairpin so as to be held in position by the resilience of the hairpin with the wire ends 14, 15 contacting opposite metallised surfaces of the disc 18. The strip of capacitors is then passed through flux and solder baths to dip-solder the wires to the capacitors after which an insulating coating is applied to each capacitor. Finally the rounded ends 13 of the hairpins are cut off leaving separate terminal wires attached to the capacitors. The latter may then be packed still attached to the strip and prior to this the strip may be passed over a wheel having contacts engaging in the holes 16, 17, and hence the terminal recesses, to test the capacitors. Fig. 10 shows another embodiment wherein the strip 31 has rectangular apertures 32, 33 and slits 34 for the reception of the hairpins, the rounded ends 35 of which are bent over the adjacent edge of the strip and pressed towards the strip so as to grip the latter. After attachment of the capacitors as before, the ends 35 are cropped off, for example, by cutting the strip along the slits 34, and the capacitors are pushed towards the strip so as to seat in the apertures 32, 33.
