Abstract

826,897. Jointing by stamping. AMP Inc. March 5, 1958 [March 22, 1957], No. 7092/58. Class 83 (4). A tool for crimping electrical connectors to electrical conductors comprises a first stationary die, a second die reciprocable relative to the first and one or more members slidable between the two dies and presenting co-operating die surfaces to the two dies and forming two die sets therewith, movement of the second die towards the first operating the two die sets. The tool has a U-shaped head and a slidable member 18 reciprocable between the arms 10 and 12 of the head. Die surfaces 20 and 22 on the slidable member co-operates with a stationary die 16 in the head and a die 24 on a reciprocable member 26 respectively, the latter being operated by handles 30, 32 through toggle links 34, 36. Shoulders 40 and 42 on the slidable member are guided between face-plates 44 and 46 and the shoulders also act as stops to limit the operation of the two die sets. A connector-locator 64 bolted to the tool has deformed portions 66 and 68 spaced at different distances from each die set to accurately position a connector and conductor to be crimped in one or other of the die sets.
