Abstract

1351205 Crimping pliers BUNKER RAMO CORP 23 April 1971 [5 June 1970] 11089/71 Heading B4W Manual crimping pliers for crimping electrical terminal tags &c. on to conductors comprise a slide member 30 movable relative to an anvil member 46 to cause a crimping die and shear blade to operate to crimp portions of a terminal to respective portions, a conductor then shears the terminal from a strip of similar terminals. As shown, slide member 30 can be advanced by actuation of handles 16, 22. A screw 36 protruding from member 30 mounts first and second crimping dies 40, 42 and a shear blade actuator 44. The anvil member 46 has first and second crimping anvils 46a, 46b and movably supports a shear blade 48. A compression spring 68 acts between dies 40, 42. A guide 61 serves to guide a strip of terminals through the tool. In operation the spring 68 ensures that die 40 advances ahead of die 42 so that die 40 reaches its full closure position with respect to its opposite anvil 46a before die 42 reaches its full closure position with respect to its opposite anvil 46b. Thus, the dies 40, 42 successively operate to crimp first terminal ears about conductor based end 62 and second terminal ears about conductor insulation 63. For this purpose a degree of lost motion is possible between dies 40, 42 as afforded by enlargement of the slot 40a which mounts die 40 on screw 36. Thereafter, blade actuator 44 urges the shear blade 48 to move relative to anvil member 46 against return spring 72, whereupon the blade and anvil member co-operate to sever the crimped terminal from the strip. The tool is adjustable for handling conductors of various gauge wires, by varying the amount of protrusion of the screw 36 from slide member 30. This is done by rotating the screw by means of a lever 37 extending therefrom.
