Pliers for indenting electrical connectors on conductors comprise a ram 3 movable in a frame 1, a movable die block 20 having a connector receiving opening 21 and disposed between the ram and the frame which provide cam surfaces 31, 32, a number of indentors 23 carried by the block 20 and movable in radial cut-outs therein into the opening 21 under the influence of said cam surfaces and means coupling said frame block and ram together so that the block is moved in the same direction as the ram but through a reduced distance, whereby the indentors are all moved equal amounts by the cam surfaces. A fixed handle 2 is secured to the frame 1. A movable handle 4 which is spring-biased into open position is pivoted at 5 to the ram 3 and at 7 to a pair of toggle links 6. A pawl 8 mounted on the pin 7 co-operated with ratchet teeth 9 on the handle 4 to ensure complete closure of the handle before it may be re-opened. A pair of racks 10 mounted on the frame 1 are connected to a pair of racks 12 mounted on the ram 3 by a pair of pinions 15 which are coupled to the die assembly 16. Each cut-out in the die assembly accommodates a wire indentor 23 and a shroud indentor (not shown). A pair of springs 25 mounted on the die block 20, engage in grooves in the indentors, thereby biasing the indentors away from the connector bore 21. A cup 19 mounted on the die carrier 16 is adapted to receive an inserted connector and to act as a depth stop therefor.
