812,813. Sparking-plug cleaning-tools. BOARDMAN, F. V. Aug. 25, 1955 [Sept. 1, 1954], No. 25432/54. Class 7(4) [Also in Group XXIII] The moulded synthetic resin body 10, Fig. 1, has a file 11 at one end and slots 12 at the other end, the file tang 11a being fixed to the body 10 and having scraping shoulders 11b, 11c for cleaning a sparking plug centre electrode shoulder and the end of the plug casing whilst the file 11 is used to clean the adjacent end faces of the electrodes by forcing it therebetween. Fixed or removable scraper blades 13, 15, which may be located in any combination of the slots 12, are of L or T shape, the selection and location of the blades depending upon the configuration and number of earth electrodes; the blades which are separated by a slot or gap 16, have serrated ends so that upon axial and part-rotary motion of the tool relative to the centre electrode the serrations will remove any carbon thereon, the recess 17 between the lower axial edges of the blades, as shown in the Figure, enabling the tool to be partly rotated without fouling the earth electrode(s). The blades are forced together as the tool is pushed into the plug body. The tool is provided with a casing into which a plug may be screwed, the casing is then filled with petrol and shaken to rinse out the plug interior. According to the Provisional Specification the tool, which is made from a single sheet of spring steel, is formed with a slot that widens into a rectangular aperture extending over one half of the circumference of the cylindrical body; one half of each surface of the handle is provided with file teeth.
