Beit known that I,"A1,nxiii\mnny I-IoxziN- soN, ya citizen of theUnited States, residing at Burnside, in the county of Hartford 4and .State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brushes, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relatesto brushes of that type wherein bristles secured between suitable lengthsof twisted wire are deflected into desirable brush form by a suitable member comprising a handle or back which engages the bristles to confine them on one side of the core formed by the twisted wires.

In the drawings accompanyingand forming part of the present specification I have shownin detail preferred forms of embodiment of my invention, which to enable those skilled in the art to practice the same will be fully set forth in the following description while the novelty of the invention is defined in the claims succeeding said description.

designates a brush holding member developed from sheet metal ofsuitable thickness to permit of a fiat blank'being formed therefrom and bent into desired shape by forming dies. The brush receiving part 4, of the member 3, is substantially U-shaped in transverse section and is extended at one end with shortened sides to form apart 5, of handle 6, the mating part 7, of which is secured ltheretoby rivets 8. Itwill be ,understood .however, that when a brush` member is associated with a holder 3, the cylindrical form ofthe brush material is chang'edby confining the bristles in the manner about to be disclosed.

Referring to Figs. 5, 6, 7 and 8,v the method of assembling the holder and brush vmemare parted longitudinally and folded as indicated by the arrows in Fig. 5, vto extend as .shown in Fig. 6,. so that the part surrounding the wire core may bev introduced between l the sides of the holder, see Fig. 7. Adjacent the ends of the brush member the holder is provided with llugs 9, already mentioned, which close the ends 0f the channel and prevent en'dwise movement of the brush member therein. Attention is also directed i to the fact thatfthe sides of the Ueshaped holder are flared outwardly to thereby prevent the edges thereof bearing -against the bristles in aninjurious manner.

The modified form of brush shown in Fig. 2, differs from the construction described, in that a rib 13, is secured yas by bolts 14, 'to the holder 15, therebyV forming twovchannels to receive duplicate brushmembers 16 and 17, it being obvious that this arrangement is employed when a heavier thicker brush is` desired. l y While' I have described specific embodi! ments of my invention itwill be understood that it is not limited to the exact construction shown but'may be varied in many. respects asv to detailwithout departure from the scope ofthe invention asfdefined by the i appended claims. y
