Abstract

812,076. Cleansing or polishing floors, walls, &c.: brushes: polishing pads. COOK, L. J. March 29, 1957 [March 29, 1956], No. 9929/56. Classes 19 and 138(1). A domestic or like brushing, cleaning or polishing appliance incorporates an operating head 1 which at one side is pivotally mounted on one end of a pole handle or on a socket 9 therefor so that the head 1 can swing freely through acute angles on opposite sides of the handle or socket axis to substantially equal extents determined by stop means, whereby either of two opposite faces 2 of the head 1 can be brought to an ultimate operative position. The head 1 is carried by a bracket 3 having opposed cheeks 4 which accommodate the handle or socket 9, carried therefrom on a pivot pin 6 or pins. The bracket 3 has side walls 8 with arcuate gaps acting as stop means for the handle or socket 9. The walls can be united to adjacent edges of the cheeks 4, there being web portions 8a between the cheeks 4 and ends of the base 5. The head 1 may have, e.g. brush bristles on one face and a spongy pad, e.g. of polyurethane on the other. By having washers at the pivot 6 to impose frictional resistance, pressure may be required for swinging-over or the pivot pin 6 may have (a) threaded end(s) with a selflocking nut tightened to clamp flexible cheeks 4 against the socket 9.
