Abstract
819,307. Pipe couplings. ETERNIT S.p.a. Jan. 7, 1956, No. 622/56. Class 99(1). A tubular sleeve 13 has a pair of axially spaced, internal, annular recesses 14 each comprising a radially-extending, inner end surface 23 and a tapered, axially-extending surface 19 converging inwardly in the direction of that end sleeve adjacent the recess, and seated in each recess is an annular gasket V- shaped in cross-section; the slope of one arm 16 of the gasket when seated in the associated recess thereof corresponds to the slope of the surface 19 of the recess and the free end 21 of the arm abuts the surface 23 of the recess, while the other arm 17 of the gasket diverges at a small angle with respect to the axis of the sleeve for reception in an annular groove 20 in the surface of the pipe to be coupled and with the end 22 thereof abutting the radiallyextending, inner end surface 24 of the groove. Correct assembly of the coupling is indicated by the alignment of grooves 27, 28 in the pipes 1, 2 and the end surfaces 29, 30 of the sleeve, a gap 9 being maintained between the ends of the pipes. To permit a limited deflection of one pipe relative to the other, the internal diameter of the sleeve is greater than the external diameter of the pipes.
