Abstract

817,031. Two-part couplings. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. May 4, 1956 [May 6, 1955], No. 13245/55. Class 38 (1). In a plug-and-socket connector consisting of interfitting casings 14, 24 enclosing contactcarrying blocks 11, 13 and 21, 23, respectively, the casings are held together, with the contacts engaged, by balls 16 carried by casing 14 and projecting inwardly into a peripheral recess 24c on casing 24, the balls being maintained in the locking position by the engagement therewith of a tapered surface on a collar 17 slidable axially of casing 14 under the influence of a spring 19. Withdrawal of collar 17 against the spring releases balls 16 so that the connector parts may be separated by an axial pull on one of them which causes the balls to leave recess 24c. Each pair of contact-carrying blocks holds a resilient sealing member 12 or 22 under compression between them.
