Abstract
816,161. Glass. OWENS-ILLINOIS GLASS CO. March 19, 1957 [March 21, 1956], No. 8923/57. Drawings to Specification. Class 56. The physical characteristics (e.g. viscosity and surface tension) of a base glass containing alumina are modified by adding thereto a glass frit substantially free of alumina. The frit may be added to the molten base glass as it enters the forehearth. The base glass may consist of (parts by weight) SiO2 60À75; Al2O3 0À3-10; Cao + MgO 6-15 ; Na2O 12-18; K2O 0-5 and BaO 0-5. The frit may have substantially the same composition as the base glass but with SiO2 substituted for the Al2O3 content. A colourant (e.g. Cr2U3) may be added to the frit.
