Abstract

904,818. Glass sealing compositions. CORNING GLASS WORKS. March 20, 1961 [March 28, 1960], No. 10099/61. Class 56. A fusion-type glass sealing composition in comminuted form comprises a mixture of a solder sealing glass having a thermal expansion coefficient of at least 80 X 10<SP>-7</SP> and an inert refractory material which is an oxide or a silicate, the refractory material having a thermal expansion coefficient below 80 x 10<SP>-7</SP> and being present in an amount up to 20% by volume of the mixture. Preferably the refractory coefficient is at least 25 x 10<SP>-7</SP> units lower than that of the glass. Glasses preferred are given in percentages by weight, in the ranges PbO 76 to 83.5; ZnO 0 or 11; B 2 O 3 9 to 10; SiO 2 1.5 to 5; BaO 0 or 2; Al 2 O 3 0 to 3. Zircon is used as the refractory material, preferably 10 parts to 100 parts by volume of the glass. Specifications 613,896, 634,548 and 822,279 are referred to.
