Abstract

803,809. Toothed gearing. JIDET. March 4, 1957 [March 12, 1956], No. 7123/57. Class 80(1). Gearing for connecting the upper and lower shafts 8, 3 of rolling mills and similar machines includes two or more identical gear cases 28 each containing a pair of pinions 23, 33 meshing with each other and rotatably supported on ball bearings 24, 25. These gear units are adapted to be coupled to each other and to the upper shaft 8 and a drive shaft 18 geared to the lower shaft by means of fluted shafts or shaft ends 21a, 8a, 21. The arrangements allows for variation of the shaft centre distance and enables ready replacement of a complete gear unit.
