Abstract

801,899. Forcing liquids by gaseous pressure. MESHBERG, P. Sept. 20, 1955 [Sept. 20, 1954 ; June 28, 1955], No. 26945/55. Class 102(2). [Also in Group XVIII]. A valve controlling the discharge of a measured amount of fluid under pressure from a container 10a comprises a tubular housing 11 having an inner transverse apertured wall 11a and a resilient sealing valve washer 14 at the outer container end of the housing, a valve stem 20 passing through the washer and having a sealing portion 21 and an outer passage 26, 25 for discharging fluid from the housing when the stem is moved inwardly a given distance, means 30 on the stem co-operating with a second valve disc 28 adjacent the transverse wall 11a whereby the housing communicates with the container when the part 21 seals with the washer 14, and seals the housing from the container when the stem is moved inwardly the given distance. On depressing knob 24, collar 30 on the valve stem 19 first closes the aperture 12 to seal the housing from the container and then a lateral port 26 is brought from above the valve disc 14, to which it is normally urged by spring 23 when the stem collar 21 seals on the underside of the disc, to below this so that only the fluid in the housing 11 is dispensed via stem passage 25. On removing the knob 24 and further depressing the stem, collar 30 re-opens the aperture 12 and a by-pass passage 31 allows the container to be filled with fluid via passage 25. In another embodiment collar 30 is replaced by a hollow stem extension sealing in disc 28 and having a lateral port movable from above to below the disc, the by-pass is formed by an annular reduced portion on the stem and the disc 14 flexes beneath a domed cap 14. In a further embodiment the by-pass and valve 30 are formed by two lateral recesses in a solid stem.
