Abstract

807,280. Tanks. UNTHANK, D. G., and SILLEY, A. J. May 24, 1957 [April 11, 1956], No. 11072/56. Class 69 (1). A tank consists of a rigid top 10 and a rigid base structure 11 connected by a flexible bag 12 and capable of being folded into a plurality of superimposed pleats. Three horizontal frames 13 are provided to define the outer fold lines of the pleats and the hinge pins of linking plates 14 define the inner fold lines of the pleats. Liquid is introduced with pressure at the lower end of the tank and the upper sections of the tank are constrained to rise in an unexpanded condition whilst the lower sections are expanded by the entering liquid. The upper sections are released automatically in succession for expansion as a section below attains a predetermined degree of expansion. The frames 13 are provided with brackets 15 carrying pivoted hooks 16. The brackets on each of the frames 13 below the top also carry lugs 17 in position each for engagement by a respective hook 16. Slidable plungers 18 loaded by springs 19 are provided in the brackets 15 below each lug 17. Cam blocks 20 are provided on one of each pair of plates 14. As the plates 14 move into the position corresponding to the expanded condition the cam blocks 20 take up the position shown in broken lines in Fig. 2 and move the plungers 18 against their spring loading to effect disengagement of the hooks 16 from the lugs 17.
