Abstract

971,456. Filter presses. J. I. PRZHILENSKY. Nov. 9, 1960, No. 38450/60. Heading BID. The press has fixed end plates 3, Fig. 1, and frames 1 and plates 2, Fig. 6, all suspended from beams 5, Figs. 1 and 4, the distances between frames 1 and plates 2 not being varied during operation. The frames 1, to the interior of which suspension is fed at 17, Figs. 4 and 6, from a header 18, have an inflatable sealing hose 19, Fig. 6, on each side, to which compressed air or water may be fed at 22, Figs. 4 and 6, from a pipeline 21, when it is required to close the filter chambers prior to filtration. During filtration, filtrate is withdrawn at 12 to a header 13 from the interior of plates 2. Then compressed air, washing water, more compressed air and hot air to dry the cake may be introduced to the chambers. Next, the pressure inside hoses 19 is relieved. Each plate 2 is covered by a single filter cloth 15 arranged U-fashion and extending from a cross-piece 28, around a tensioning tube 26, to another cross-piece, Fig. 6. The cross-pieces 28, and lower members 27a to which tubes 26 are secured by springs 29, form part of a cradle 27 which, in the next phase, is lowered by admission of air or liquid to two cylinders 32, Fig. 1, whereupon the descending filter cloths are cleaned against knives 25, Fig. 6, mounted under the frames 1. The cradle and cloths are returned to their initial positions for the next cycle. The frames are filled with perforated packing 24, Figs. 4 and 6. A truck 9, Fig. 1, serves to lift and lower the frames and plates during assembly and repairs. The filtration cycles are controlled by an automatic device. In Fig. 11 the rectangular frame is replaced by a circular hoop 39 containing a hose 40 having an annular boss 42 on one or both sides, the boss being penetrated at intervals by radial nipples 44 for introduction of suspension, air and water to the filtrate chambers. In Figs. 12 to 14 (not shown), the hoops 39 are dispensed with and a boss 42 is provided on both sides of the hose
