Abstract

796,926. Fluid bearings. UNITED KING- DOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Aug. 15, 1956 [Aug. 16, 1955], No. 23538/55. Class 12 (1). A fluid bearing comprises a porous metal sleeve 2, resiliently mounted in a housing 6 by rubber rings 4 at each end of the sleeve, and an inlet 8 through which gas is supplied to a reservoir 7 from which the gas filters through the porous wall of the sleeve 2 into the clearance space 3 between the sleeve 2 and the shaft 1. The sleeve 2 is held in place by a plate 9 and screws 10.
