Abstract

817,432. Stuffing-box substitutes. GIRDLESTONE PUMPS Ltd. Nov. 25, 1957 [Nov. 23, 1956], No. 35850/56. Class 122 (5). A liquid flinger assembly 1 for a rotary shaft 3 which passes through a gland recess 2 having a packing 4 therein comprises an annular finger 6, an annular catchment housing 7, a pair of rods 10 and nuts 12 for securing the housing, an outlet 8 for draining away liquid collected in the housing and a gland ring 5 formed integrally with or secured to the housing. The flinger, which is secured to the shaft by a set-screw 9, is provided with a shoulder 6a acting as a second flinger portion to throw off liquid which drops back from the housing. The packing is compressed by the nuts 12 and rods 10 which are pivoted on the packing housing 11.
