688,974. Variable-speed gear. MIAG VERTRIEBSGES. July 10, 1950 [July 13, 1949J, No. 17172/50. Class 80 (ii). Grind or feed rolls 1, 2 are variably driven by a torque-split planet-gear comprising an input sun 3 fast on a driving shaft 7, carrying a driving pulley 16; an output planet-carrier connected by a one-way clutch 8 to a spur-wheel 9 meshing pinions 10, 11 on the roll-shafts; and a ring-gear 4 variably driven from the input shaft 7 through an expanding-pulley or other gear 12, 13, a countershaft 14 and pinion 15. The one-way clutch 8 provides for a reliable stationary output position. Individual variable motor drives 19, 20 to the input and countershafts 7, 14 may replace the variable gear.
