Abstract

656,035. Compound fabrics. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd. Nov. 16, 1948, No. 29803. [Class 140] Composite pile fabric is produced by fixing to the back of a woven pile fabric by means of an emulsion of a polyvinyl compound, e.g. polyvinyl chloride and copolymers thereof including a plasticizer such as tricresyl phosphate, serving as an adhesive, a layer of a further fabric which secures the bights of the pile tufts in the ground of the woven pile fabric. The pile fabric may comprise tufts of filaments of organic derivatives of cellulose, e.g. cellulose acetate, and the additional fabric may comprise a thin woven fabric having a smooth and decorative surface, e.g. satin, or a heavier woven fabric or a second pile fabric. In an embodiment, fabric 11, Fig. 2, passes over a spreading bed 15 which allows the fabric to yield under a doctor blade 14, whereby adhesive 16 is spread on the back of the fabric which passes over a drying plate 17. A like treatment is applied to the pile fabric and the fabrics are united in the manner illustrated in Fig. 3 in which the fabric 11 is passed a second time over the bed 15 and a coat of wet adhesive 16 applied, under a roller 19 where it is brought in contact with the pre-coated pile fabric 20 and the two fabrics pass together under the roller 19 over a large drum 22 and under a roller 23 before passing over the drying plate 17.
