Abstract
639,911. Vehicle roof trim. MORRIS MOTORS, Ltd. Feb. 12, 1948, No. 4107. [Class 20 (iv)] The trim for the roof of a motor vehicle comprises prefabricated panels a, b, c of pliable board materials, and resilient metal strips g are arranged to be compressed longitudinally into arched formation to establish and maintain bending stresses in the panels to force the panels against the roof panels f and to retain them in place. The side panels a, c fit at the front and outerside into the slot d between the cantrail e and the roof panel f, while the centre panel b fits into this groove at the front and is overlapped at the side edges by the side panels. Two spring steel battens g are riveted to the upper face of panel b near and parallel to the side edges, and at the rear ends are fitted with short rods h which are rounded at the end and fit into recesses in the heads of bolts i which screw into tubes j and serve as turnbuckles. The battens are not riveted to the panel b at the rear so that the panel may be adjusted to arch the battens. The rear part of the panel is then pressed into place and its edge clamped by the rear window moulding m. In another embodiment the battens are not attached to the trim panel but are placed below it for the greater part of their length and at the rear pass through slots in the panel to the turnbuckles. The panels a, b, c and the battens, if exposed, are covered with decorative material, and the panels may butt.
