Abstract

Solid compositions containing insoluble amines or salts thereof in a readily diazotizable form are made by drying, in the presence of a dispersing agent, an aqueous paste of a primary aromatic amine or salt thereof which is insoluble or sparingly soluble in water and subsequently grinding the dried mixture and separating a dried composition all the particles of which have a diameter not greater than 50 microns. If desired, a solid acid or salt and sodium nitrite may be mixed with the composition. Examples are given of the preparation of compositions containing (1) 4-amino-3-nitrotoluene, the sodium salt of the condensation product of 2 mols. of naphthalene-2-sulphonic acid with 1 mol. of formaldehyde, sodium 4-oleylamino-1-methoxybenzene-2-sulphonate and sodium sulphate; (2) 1-methoxy-4-amino-3-nitrobenzene, the wetting agents of (1) and sodium sulphate; (3) 2,5-dichloroaniline sulphate, the wetting agents of (1) and trisodium naphthalene-1,3,6-trisulphonate; (4) 4-chloro-2-nitroaniline, the wetting agent of (1) and trisodium naphthalene-1,3,6-trisulphonate; (5) dianisidine, the condensation product of cetyl alcohol and ethylene oxide, and trisodium 1,3,6-naphthalene trisulphonate; (6) o-nitroaniline or 5-nitro-o-anisidine, the wetting agents of (1) and sodium sulphate, and (7) of the dyeing of cotton which has been padded with 2,3-hydroxynaphthoic-a -naphthylamide, Turkey Red oil, caustic soda and formaldehyde in a dyebeck to which is added a dispersible 5-nitro-o-anisidine composition prepared as in (6) hydrochloric acid and sodium nitrite, followed by sodium acetate, acetic acid and common salt.
