Abstract

Dry compositions suitable for use in textile printing are made by adding an aqueous alkaline solution of an ice-colour coupling component capable of being precipitated from its aqueous alkaline solution, to an aqueous solution containing a diazoamino compound or compounds obtained by the action of a diazo compound on a mixture of amino acids derived from the hydrolysis of a proteid substance, salting out, and drying. In examples: (1) diazotized p 4-chloro-2-toluidine is coupled with a sodium carbonate solution of the sulphuric acid hydrolysis products of glue, an alkaline solution of 2 : 3-hydroxynaphthoic acid anilide or acetoacetic-o-toluidide added and the mixture salted out; further arylide may be added as determined by dye trials until there is a slight excess; (2) diazotized 2 : 5-diethoxy-4-benzoylaminoaniline is coupled with a boiled sodium carbonate solution of the alcoholic extract of hydrolyzed glue, mixed with an alkaline solution of 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic acid anilide and the mixture precipitated with caustic soda; (3) diazotized 4-chloro-2-anisidine is combined with an alkaline solution of the amino acids obtained by the carbamate process from hydrolyzed gelatine, an alkaline solution of 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic-o-anisidide added, the solution clarified by stirring with green earth and aluminium powder and precipitated with caustic soda; the p-chloranilide of 2 : 3-hydroxycarbazole carboxylic acid may be used; (4) diazotized 5-chloro-2-toluidine is combined in sodium carbonate solution with the amino acids obtained from hydrolyzed gelatine by means of the copper salts, mixed with the o-toluidide or 4-brom-2-anisidide of 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic acid in alkaline solution and the filtered solution salted out; (5) the composition of (1) containing 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic anilide is mixed with starch tragacanth, printed on calico, steamed with steam containing acetic acid vapours and soaped.
