628,032. Beams; composite structural members. ANDERSON, A. Jan. 31, 1946, No. 23230. Divided out of 627,973. [Classes 20(ii) and 20(iv)] A composite metal and wood structural member comprises a metal web 22 and one, or two oppositely disposed, channels 20a accommodating wooden components 23 which project beyond the end of the channel member to enable woodworking operations to be effected at the end or ends of the composite member. The metal components are of sheet metal with the mid-web of double thickness, and may be galvanised or otherwise rust-proofed. The channels are open, to take the wooden components by transverse insertion, and the wood may be secured by nails through the channel walls. Interfitting wooden members 27 may be secured between the projecting ends of those filling the channels. The application of the composite member to roof framing is described.
