[Class 100(iii)] [Also in Group XXV] In a composing stick of the type in which the bar 1 constituting the stick and the slidable jaw 3 thereof are surrounded by a ring 4 on the inside of which there is rotatably mounted a clamping member 10, operable from outside the ring and wedged between the jaw and the ring, a block 7 is removably mounted in the jaw and adapted to receive the pressure from the clamping member. The clamping member comprises a handle 9 and is pivoted on a trunnion 11 engaging in the block, which is fitted in an oval recess 6, the member and block having interacting helicoidal cam surfaces 12, whereby on rotation of the handle the member 10 presses against the ring to clamp the bar and jaw together. To counteract wear of the member 10, the position of the block is adjustable by means of shims 8 removably fitted at the bottom of the recess. The ring is slidable with the jaw, being held thereto by projections 5.
