Abstract

522,566. Closures for containers. FORTUNE, S. Nov. 16, 1938, No. 33318. [Class 125 (iii)] A sealing ring 12 is compressed between annular faces 11c, 13 on the lid 11 and the container 10 respectively, and at least one of these faces, preferably that on the lid, is tapered. In the form shown in Fig. 1 the lid has a well the outer surface of which carries the ring 12, and the lower part of which is enlarged to form a continuous or dis-continuous bead 11d to retain the ring 12 in position. The wall 13 is integral with an inclined flange portion 14 attached to the container wall 10 by the two parts being beaded together at their edges 15. The bead 11d may have a diameter such that it just snaps below the lower end of the wall 13. The ring 12 may reach the upper part 11a of the cap and be compressed between the parts 11a, 13b, Fig. 2, as well as between the faces 11c, 13. The bead 11a may be at the upper part of the well so that the ring is compressed between the bead and the part 13b. The outer parts of the lid .and container may be beaded and the well may be provided with a cover.
