Abstract

167,423. Wright, W. F., and Hall, C. R. Oct. 21, 1920. Lids, hermetic.-The body 1 of a bottle, jar, &c. has a cylindrical beaded upper edge 6 with which engages the conical wall 7 of a flanged lid or cover 8, the wall 7 extending beyond the beaded edge 6 so as to allow the edge 10 of the lid &c. to be pressed to slightly distort same and release it from the body. The body, when of metal, is formed with one or more circumferential corrugations, and the outer face of the beaded edge is flattened around its circumference to co-operate with the flattened face of the lid &c. and form a substantially air-tight joint.
