Abstract

501,217. Hydraulic garage. lifts. EPCO, Ltd., and KINGSLEY, S. Oct., 6, 1937, No. 27033. [Class 78 (iii)] Hydraulic garage lifts of the kind employing a platform or duplicate track carried by four hydraulic cylinders working on corner posts or pillars, have the cylinders connected in pairs and the pairs of cylinders also interconnected by mechanical compensating gear to prevent lateral or longitudinal tilting of the platform under uneven load. The Figure shows the arrangement in plan. The cylinders 1, which move on fixed corner posts, are connected in pairs by the girders 2 carrying the,load-supporting platform 3. The girders 2 carry brackets 4 forming bearings for shafts 5 which have pinions 9 gearing with fixed racks 10 adjacent the corner posts. The two shafts 5 are inter-connected by a longitudinal shaft 7 and bevel gears 6. Excess movement of any cylinder causes an extra rotation of the corresponding pinion 9 which is communicated to all the other pinions through the gearing. Pawl-and-ratchet mechanism 12, 13 may be fitted to one shaft 5 to prevent the raised lift from running back ; lowering being possible only when the ratchet gear has been disconnected by hand operation.
