Abstract

505,505. Electric soldering-irons &c. BRYCE, Ltd., and COLLEY. G. Nov. 11, 1937, No. 30993. [Class 39 (iii)] A low-voltage soldering-iron or like tool is provided with a bare metal heating resistance 1 conductively connected with the bit 2 and enclosed within the tubular extension 3 without the interposition of insulating material. The handle comprises concentric tubes 9, 10 connected to the supply leads and fitted with a wooden grip 14. The resistance 1 is of nickel chromium wire welded at one end to the bit and at the other end to a rod 4 secured to the tube 9. The extension 3 is screwed into the tube 10 and is surrounded by an asbestos sheath 22. In Fig. 2, a finned portion 19 is arranged in the extension 3 to retard flow of heat to the handle.
